”From small beginnings, come big endings” – Fink

fullsizeoutput_82c

I love new beginnings. I clean up, knowing that within no time things get caotic and messy again, but then you clean up again. I like that feeling, for I hardly ever look back. With the ‘cleansing’, I’m training myself to do so, to appreciate the good things  that happened, and to learn from the mistakes. But after that: hoppa, you-out!

This year was a fantastic one, I wrote so many new songs, arranged them, recorded them and learned so many new things: programming, new ways of singing, I managed to to understand my guitar better. I loved working in Finland with José Antonio my co-producer and partner in this musical crime. It is good to co-create and I hope to find more likeminded musicians here in Madrid, ’cause I have a music that needs to be performed with a band again. (Big Smile, here)

People have been lovely: I recently took up performing again as I was physically unable for quite some time and I am so appreciative of the response of people. I am defenitely doing more of this. I like this sharing.

The album is taking its time. ”I want it all and I want it now” is sooo 2017: the new paradime is pacience. As I am collaborating with other musicians, things need to fit in schedules etc. so that’s why it’s taking its time. I will keep you informed though and I will also anounce a campaign later this year with the offer of buying the album in advance so we can fund it properly and turn this collection of songs into something you really want to have. (It’s soooo fit for driving, cleaning, ”singing alonging”, sobbing and ”sillying”! )

Make 2018 the best year you’ve ever had -all aspects of life taken into account-

Rock this one good and hard,

xSas

Candles, Couch, Computer and Guitar

I am too Dutch not to like the indoor candle cozyness of fall and winter. I just don’t like the cold and my choice to live in Spain has proven to be an excellent way to avoid grey skies and dreary weather: I love how the spanish sun can warm your skin during the day in autumn and winter. Today I had breakfast at the local bar in my barrio where Sergio the bartender, just knows how I like my coffee and starts making it, the moment he sees me. I read some pages of my book while I enjoyed the sunshine and the strong coffee.

At the moment I am not performing, though that doesn’t mean I am not playing. I am looking forward to the time I am back singing for people, but for now the focus is a bit inward. I do write a lot and play a lot and I am busy shaping the songs, and everything that comes with making an album. I love the creative process and enjoy seeing everything coming together.

There are setbacks of course but I ‘ve learned to take them as they come, knowing the results will only be better than planned. It’s just like a natural elimination of things that just don’t go with it. Adjust and keep going.

Co-producer and sound engineer of the album will be Jose Antonio Montaño. He was my guitarist in my first band and we played many gigs together. He then pursued a career as music producer in Finland and well: here we are: making a record! I am in Spain, Montaño is in Finland as is our drummer and our bass player is Amsterdam based. It involves some travelling and there is the internet of course!

I am finishing a song I wrote when I decided to throw out 2 other songs that were already recorded: I seem to have created a habit out of it as I wrote ‘Sugar’ from scratch, while I was in the studio recording ‘’Home’’. I guess, I need the push, the thrill and the rush of making something new on the spot. But this one, is really nice and is now my favourite one of the entire album.

For the artwork and photographs I am collaborating with OLPHO, a Spanish artist based in Madrid.

We had a shoot  last week and I think we already have an album cover! 🙂  I am quite excited! But who knows, things may change in half a year. Yes, we are taking our time. Due to the fact that I am recording this way, I have to respect schedules of the other musicians and so, it will take a bit longer as planned, but it might just be the right time to let things ripen.

If you wish to subscribe to these updates: send an email to sas.music@hotmail.com and I will keep you informed.

Till next time, have a colourful fall everyone,

Sas

This crazy Indian Summer

Hi Everyone,

How are you all doing? In this part of the world (Madrid, Spain) it is still sunny and warm. It’s crazy, but secretly I am enjoying this delicious warmth a lot. And it is a  special day: ’cause we a have a new little familymember! I am an auntie again! She is lovely. Her name is Yarah.

The album is coming together and it is so very satisfying to see things unfolding as ‘planned’. I am doing this for the first time this way, the writing, the arrangements, the singing , a part of the instruments, so it is a lot of work, also because I’m failing all the time with the technical/computer part of it, but it is great to know that the guys and girl in the team now have stuff to work with. The vibe is great, positive and energetic. We are all busy musicians, but this is coming together so nicely. They are all such great persons, I am so happy with them!

In 2 weeks I will present them to you in a video and will tell you all about what we are preparing for you guys and how you can already pre-order the album. you will defenitely like this one. It’s got all elements: it’s danceable, it’s ‘driveable’ it’s ‘sweetable’ and ‘singalongable’! Hey, just what you need! 🙂

Enjoy the fall wherever you are,

x Sas

You

Hello lovely people,

I am writing you from sunny, ‘autumn’s in the air Madrid’, while I ‘m sipping my coffee.

I am doing extremely well as all is coming together. I am writing and producing a new album and I am loving it. Aáand I am not doing it alone.

I started contacting people in February, started writing songs in March, made a pre-production to show my ideas to José Antonio Montaño, my co-producer, sound engineer and guitarist, flew up to Finland to work together on the guitar recordings and I am currently making the first arrangements to send to Montaño so he can record drums, with our drummer, later this month. I also need to finish them this week, to send them to another fantastic guest musician who will also make her appearance on the album.

Few facts: all the people I collaborate with are profesional musicians and they are also very dear friends. We live in 4 different countries so there is a bit of travelling involved as well as working online. Soon I will present them to you.

I also found an amazing photographer and graphic designer who is going to do the artwork for the album and I will collaborate with a dear friend here in Madrid to get it all together and make a… surprise, to accompany the album with its release.

We are all people that communicate best through our art and it is our pleasure to provide you with some music that is really from the heart. May it be ballads or the more uptempo, tougher material: it is all something we want to share with you. I thought about this album a lot and I don’t want to make something for myself, I want to make something extraordinary for you, you are so important in this process. I know there is so much music out there nowadays. I want to reach out to you and connect with you through this and give you something special to listen to. So therefore, I am highly critical about every note that presents itself. This one goes in, that one: ‘sorry, not this time’. That is why I wanted to work closely with Montaño again, he has an eye (and an ear) for that.

The record will probably see its releasse in spring 2018.

So, that’s it for now, I will keep you updated and will slowly reveal more things about this album in the weeks to come.

hearts,
Sas

Yes! New album in the making!

Hello from Finland, everybody!

If you have been following my facebook posts, you already know that I have been working on songs for a new album.

I wanted it to sound fresh, classical, contemporary, pop, rock, acoustic and synthesized at the same time. ”How is that possible, Sas? You have to make choices!” No I don’t. This is an incredible, catchy and interesting sound we are creating. Fit to be played on the radio, and pleasurable to listen to at home with your headphones on.

I am going to collaborate with two artists and dear friends, that are are both experts in their art. I wanted them on the album because they inspire me and their great personalities reverberate in their music.

Very shortly I’ll tell you more about the details and about how you can be part of the club of dreamers and adventurers.

I am delighted to share this with you . I will be keeping you informed, you can follow the whole process here.
